I'm A Celebrity: Which stars have turned down the jungle reality show?

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is gearing up for its 23rd series and rumours are abound as to which music, TV and sports will be heading in to camp this year.

But for all the celebrities who have signed up to survive on rice and beans, clean the dunny and be submitted to torturous bug trials and teasing from hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly over the years - some stars keep resisting the call of jungle.

Who are the celebrities who, no matter how hard they try, ITV just can't get in there?

Here are the stars who haven't sold out, yet...

Lisa Riley

Emmerdale actor Lisa Riley has claimed she has turned down offers from I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! "every year" and she has always said no.

She recently told The Daily Star: "They ask me every year. They dangle that big carrot every year. I've always said 'no', but the older I get... I'm 47. I always go 'Corr, I'm getting old.' But in my head I always feel like I'm 19, I'm never going to change who I am."

But after years of being offered what she has admitted are "insane" fees - she might be getting closer to saying yes.

She added: "But maybe if there was a milestone like my 50th. Then maybe."

Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan has long ruled himself out of going into the jungle.

He said on the ITV breakfast show back in 2017: "I’ve been offered lots of money for these things. To go and eat bugs.

"They say ‘Hey, do you want to go to a jungle in Australia and eat kangaroo testicles as Ant and Dec mock you?’. No thanks."

Gloria Hunniford

Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford is 83 and she revealed when she received a invitation to meet with I'm A Celebrity bosses she was seriously considering taking on the challenge.

But she told her fellow Loose Women panellists back in 2019 that once she heard just what she might be in for if she headed to the jungle, she changed her mind.

Hunniford said: "In one way I wanted to challenge myself, but when they were really honest with me and told me what it was like, I thought well.

"I’m allergic to mosquitoes really badly, I’m a hospital case with that. I could do without the food I think…I don’t think I could do all the picking up of wood with my dodgy knee.

"I don’t think I could do the snake bit, and I certainly couldn’t eat a pig’s brain."

Warwick Davies

Over the years I'm A Celebrity has attracted some big names, including singer Boy George, Star Trek's George Takei and Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Caitlyn Jenner.

But Hollywood actor Warwick Davis – star of Harry Potter, Willow and Star Wars – isn't keen to follow in their footsteps.

He told the Radio Times in 2015: "I’m a Celebrity... I just didn’t fancy it, not because of the challenge of going into the jungle, but because I only choose to do stuff that I think will help move me forward."

Natasha Kaplinsky

Newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky is now the president of the British Film Classification Board (BBFC).

The 51-year-old mother-of-two won the very first series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2004 and she has appeared on a few reality shows.

But don't expect to see her in camp this year.

She told the Radio Times: “The Bank of England does not have enough money to get me in there. I’ve been invited and I said a very firm but polite no.”

James Arthur

Singer James Arthur won The X Factor in 2012 and so owes his music career to reality TV.

The 35-year-old Impossible singer admitted that the money he has been offered for some shows has been very hard to resist - but he has managed to say no.

Arthur told The Daily Star in 2016: “I got offered loads of reality shows including I’m A Celebrity and Celebrity Big Brother.

“They were life-changing amounts of money. The most I got offered was £250,000 for CBB, which I really needed at the time, not knowing if I had a career.

"It was a great option for me and my family but I wanted to stay true to my music and I am proud of that decision.”

Julie Goodyear

Julie Goodyear is well known to ITV viewers for playing loveable landlady Bet Lynch in Coronation Street star for over 25 years.

In 2012 the now 81-year-old actor took part in Celebrity Big Brother and made for a very entertaining housemate.

Rumours followed that Goodyear was in talks to enter the jungle.

But I'm A Celeb bosses were forced to turn her down after she refused to take the 23-hour flight to Australia, instead requesting a boat ticket down under.

I'm A Celeb producer Lisa Mary London revealed in her book: "Soap legend Julie Goodyear frustrated me when she rang in person to say she'd love to do the show if we could get her to Australia by boat.

"A 23-hour flight without frequent cigarette breaks was out of the question for the chain-smoking soap diva."
