A patio expert has shared a handy hack to banish weeds from your garden - and it won't cost you a penny.

Just in time for the summer months with the sunnier days now here, an expert has warned that there is a potential that the chemicals can damage the ecosystem in your garden, your patio, or your favourite plants.

Whilst one trick is to spray vinegar to remove weeds, this isn't always advisable as the acid can damage the surface of the stones, particularly limestone or concrete pavers, as well as being harmful to wildlife and plants.

To help, patio experts at Amstrong Cheshire have said all you need is boiling water with it being dubbed "the perfect solution to removing weeds from your patio."

The reason this trick works is that the hot water scalds the weeds by killing the leaves which is what gathers light to help the weeds grow and remain strong. As well as this, the hot water can get into any cracks helping to dislodge and stun the taproot.

Expert, Simon Wardle, explains: “This targeted method not only means your patio will end up weed-free, but it ensures there's no damage to your patio, or the environment, as there is no leftover residue left around.”

“You should start to see results in minutes as the boiling water breaks down the weed - with full results in hours.”

  1. Fill your kettle to the brim with water.

  2. Let it boil completely.

  3. Carefully carry your closed kettle to the patio

  4. Get as close to the weeds as you can and use the spout to aim directly, slowly drenching the weed fully.

  5. Wait for the magic to happen.

  6. Repeat at the earliest sign of any future weeds.

If you can, use a kettle with a spout that allows you to target the weed and avoid any other plants.

You should get as close as you can to the weed and pour slowly to avoid getting splashed with hot water.
