Images of man released after teenager allegedly filmed in leisure centre cubicle

A picture of a man has been issued after a teenager was allegedly filmed in a leisure centre while changing.

Northumbria Police have said they are investigating a report of voyeurism which reportedly took place at Waves Leisure Centre in Whitley Bay at around 3pm on April 3.

They said a teenager was getting changed when she noticed a mobile phone on the floor which she believed was recording her.

Her father challenged the suspect after the incident, who left the scene soon after.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: ”Officers investigating a report of voyeurism at a North Tyneside leisure centre have issued pictures of a man who they would like to identify.

“At around 3pm on Wednesday, April 3, a teenager was getting changed in a cubicle at the Waves Leisure Centre in Whitley Bay when she noticed a mobile phone on the floor which she believed was recording her.

“The girl was left distressed and notified her father who then challenged the suspect – who quickly left the scene soon after.

“The incident was immediately reported and an investigation launched.  A number of enquiries have already been carried out as part of the ongoing investigation, including a trawl of CCTV.

“Today (Tuesday), police have issued the image of a man who was in the area at the time of the incident and could have information which would assist officers.

“The man, anyone who knows him, or anyone with information is asked to contact police using the ‘Report’ pages of the Northumbria Police website, quoting log NP-20240403-0769.”
