‘Immaculate’ Trailer: Sydney Sweeney Is Pregnant With ‘Miracle’ Child in Psychological Horror Film

In Season 2 of “Euphoria,” Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie famously proclaims that she has “never, ever been happier.” It seems the same cannot be said for her new character Cecilia in the upcoming psychological horror film “Immaculate,” which is set to release in theaters March 22.

Directed by Michael Mohan, Sweeney stars as a devoutly religious woman who moves into a haunted Italian convent in the countryside, which seems picturesque on the outside. The newly released trailer from Neon reveals that Cecilia will undoubtedly experience some “suffering” while dealing with a mysterious pregnancy.

“It’s a miracle. You are with child,” Sweeney’s Cecilia is told during a sinister sonogram.

“Out of all the women in the world, why did he choose me?” she asks in the trailer.

Following her pregnancy, the convent becomes an unsafe place for Cecilia as violent forces come after her. The trailer promises a great deal of blood, jump scares and religious iconography.

In addition to Sweeney, who produces the film, the cast includes Àlvaro Morte, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli, Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli and Giampiero Judica. The script was penned by Andrew Lobel.

“Immaculate” is a swing in the opposite direction for Sweeney following her latest theatrical release, the sun-drenched rom-com “Anyone But You,” in which she stars in a fake-dating scheme opposite Glen Powell. She is also set to appear in the Marvel film “Madame Web,” releasing in February.

Sweeney previously worked with “Immaculate” director Michael Mohan on the Netflix coming-of-age series “Everything Sucks!”; Mohan served as co-creator and Sweeney was in the main cast of the 2018 dramedy series, which takes place in the 1990s.
