‘Immense’ progress made in Manchester attack investigation

British police say they have made ‘immense’ progress in the investigation into the Manchester Arena bombing. A 44-year-old man is the latest to be arrested, taking the total number currently in custody to nine. A further two people were released without charge earlier in the week. Authorities say they’ve detained a “large part of the network” being sought, but warn more arrests are likely. “They’re very significant these arrests. We’re very happy we have got our hands around some of the key players that we’re concerned about. But as I say there is still a little bit more to do,” Met Special Operations Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley told the press. Salman Abedi, 22, is accused of detonating the suicide bomb which killed 22 people and wounded over a hundred as crowds left a pop concert on Monday night (May 22). Britain’s official terror threat level was raised to ‘critical’ in the wake of the blast, meaning another attack is expected imminently. As people in Manchester and across the rest of the UK mourn those who died, the police and Army have stepped up patrols nationwide.
