Joe Biden said "to heal we must remember" as he attended a Covid memorial service in Washington on eve of his inauguration.

The president-elect arrived in the Capitol last night as the US prepares for a transfer of power, with Donald Trump’s exit from the White House.

Meanwhile, the White House released a farewell video from Mr Trump in which he did not congratulate his successor or even use his name.

Mr Biden plans to issue a series of executive orders on Day One — including reversing Mr Trump’s effort to leave the Paris climate accord.

The outgoing president will not attend Mr Biden’s inauguration, the first outgoing president for more than a century and a half.

Mr Trump spent some of his last hours in the White House huddled with advisers weighing final-hour pardons and grants of clemency.
