Incredible archive footage of Edinburgh back in the '50s has resurfaced online.

The clip, which comes from British Pathé, shows various spots in the city in a compilation titled Views of Scotland. We see Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, Waverley Station and Princes Street as they were in 1950.

While the outfits, vehicles and shops seen are massively different from today - many things have remained the same over the past 70 years, including the buildings.

The structures we see on the Royal Mile remain almost untouched, as well as those on the Mound - and many of the buildings down on Princes Street.

Inside Waverley, we see a ticket inspector collecting stubs as people come and go from the station. We also get a peek at the the floral clock in Princes Street Gardens, which has been decorated with flowers since 1903.

Over on Princes Street, we can see families doing their shopping - with several men dressed in full kilts. Shoppers are heading in and out of Timpson, as well as Mackies - a popular department store that was torn down in the early '70s to be replaced by John Menzies.

Also on Princes Street, it becomes clear that trams were the dominant mode of transport in the '50s. Very few buses are seen passing by, with trams stretching down the thoroughfare.

Daniel Craig commented: "Great to see the old shops along Princes Street."
