The wait is over to find out who will be supporting James Arthur at the Riverside Stadium tonight.

The Road to Riverside competition took place on Teesside last night and it was indie band Spilt Milk who were chosen as the winners. They will take to the stage tonight as the opening act for his concert.

Organised by Make a Scene Events, an independent alternative events company, the competition was held at Teesside University's Students' Union to give one up and coming band the chance of a lifetime. And, it was up to James Arthur himself to decide who he wanted on the stage.

Taking to social media after their triumphant win, the Gateshead group said: "OMG… we won! See you at the Riverside tomorrow. Massive, massive thanks to @jamesarthur23. We can't wait!"

A spokesperson for Teesside University's Student's Union said: "Massive well done to them and everyone who participated, delighted to host a great event! Now for @jamesarthur23 knocking it out of park at the Riverside Stadium tomorrow night! Stay safe and have a great time if you're going."

Tonight is set to be a night like no other as James Arthur returns for a special homecoming gig at the Riverside Stadium.

The Teesside singer-songwriter takes to the stage at the Boro ground this evening. The concert is set to be his biggest headlining gig to date - and will see him joined by special guests McFly, Lauran Hibberd, and now Spilt Milk.

James - who recently secured his second UK number-one album with Bitter Sweet Love - is set to perform his huge catalogue of hits at the gig, with fans hoping to hear the likes of Say You Won't Let Go, Train Wreck, and Car's Outside on the night. Earlier this year, he told Teesside Live of the "honour" of performing on home turf - saying it was a real "full circle" moment.
