Injured Dartmoor hikers with hypothermia airlifted to hospital

Two injured hikers who were experiencing hypothermia were airlifted from Dartmoor. Search and rescue teams discovered the two hikers in the Peat Cott area yesterday evening (July 3) around 6.55pm.

Rescue teams and paramedics walked to the hikers location as vehicles carried equipment to the scene. As the first paramedics arrived, they began to assist the injured hikers.

The hikers had developed hypothermia so an air ambulance was called to the scene. The two hikers were then taken from the moor to hospital for further treatment.

The hikers have been praised for their handling of the emergency. Search and Rescue Teams have praised the hikers for following the appropriate steps while out on the moor awaiting rescue.

When members of the group became injured and unwell, the group immediately stopped and set up tents. They also contacted emergency services and waited for crews to locate them before taking them all back to safety.

Just over five hours after the initial call, the rescue mission was closed. Emergency crews left the scene around midnight.

In a statement, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team said: "Remember if you need our assistance, Dial 999 or 112, ask for the Police and then Mountain Rescue."
