Inside new Aberdeen Popeyes restaurant ahead of opening next week

Aberdonians are in for a tasty treat from Monday when Popeyes venue opens its doors to hungry local customers for the first time.

The New Orleans-inspired fast food chain is launching its 46th venue in the UK on Union Street, sandwiched in between McDonalds and Taco Bell.

But it's the chicken sandwiches that might just do the trick to reel punters in the door, and Aberdeen Live were given a first look inside the new store.

Like most fast food outlets, you are immediately greeted with an instantly recognisable logo, and there's more of the same with the distinctive orange slogan stretching across the shop front.

Inside however there's plenty going on, with the staff making their final preparations for what is set to be a busy launch when they serve their first items from 11am on Monday, April 11.

Customers are greeted with ordering screens showing a menu stacked full of incredible bargains and a wide range of chicken-based meals and more.

It's a simple yet wide-ranging selection, with 100 staff employed by the store and perfecting their techniques to fire out chicken burgers and more at an incredible pace.

Georgie Ross, Popeyes' head of central marketing, gave a tour of the new venue which offered plenty of seating in a bid to make the venue somewhere you would rather stay and eat than grab and go.

She also revealed that this is far from the last of Popeyes in Scotland, with Aberdeen's store being the chain's 46th out of the 350 planned for opening in the UK in the next decade.

A second site is also due to open later this year on Wellington Road, with the store also coming with a drive-thru for those keen to take a taste of Louisiana home for a treat.

The menu has something for everyone, with the signature chicken sandwich the stand out feature that having sampled is well worth tucking in to.

Chicken wraps too look an excellent bargain, and there's vegetarian and vegan options included, and for those simply after chicken the tenders boxes and signature Louisiana chicken will give you something to tell your friends about.

Hot wings, Buffalo saucin' wings, the saver menu, and the never ending list of sides too are a welcome addition, with cajun fries, cajun rice, mac and cheese, and even mash and gravy all included.

The Popeyes Biscuit has all the looks of your typical scone, but it has driven the American Popeyes fans crazy for years and will surely prove a popular item for Aberdeen Popeyes lovers.

Add on the mix of milkshakes - including Orea, Biscoff and more - and the Whips sundaes and those with a sweet tooth will be thrilled.

Students are also in for a bargain, with Popeyes teaming up with UNiDAYS to offer a 25% discount on food, and for those who fancy staying home, fear not.

The chain will soon be appearing on apps including Just Eat and Uber Eats, with Popeyes going live in the weeks after the store's launch.

Union Street is no stranger to fast food joints, with endless choices including the newly-opened German Doner Kebab, Taco Bell, and classics including McDonald's, Burger King and more.

But the Popeyes craze is taking over in the UK, and with the chain eager to bring a little bit of New Orleans to Scotland, Aberdeen is in for a palette-satisfying bargain.
