Inter's president Steven Zhang has confirmed that his manager Simone Inzaghi will not be leaving in the summer despite links with Liverpool.

The Reds are on the lookout for the successor to Jurgen Klopp after the German announced his intention to depart Anfield at the end of the season. Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso was installed as the early favourite to succeed Klopp but has since announced he will be staying with the newly crowned Bundesliga champions.

Since this announcement, the field has been blown wide open for the managerial hot-seat. Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is the new favourite after his successful stint in Portugal but Inzaghi's name has been floated.

After joining the Milan club from Lazio in the summer of 2021, Inzaghi has won two Italian Cups and three Super Cups. He also led Inter to the Champions League final last season and is on the verge of returning Serie A to the San Siro for the first time since the 2020/21 campaign.

However, any hopes of bringing the 48-year-old to the Premier League have now been dashed. In an interview with Sky Sport, Zheng issued a hands-off warning to Liverpool.

"There’s no doubt at all, we will continue together," the Inter chief said. "He’s an excellent coach. Inzaghi will stay as key part of our project."

Liverpool continue their push towards the Premier League title on Sunday when they travel to Fulham in the Premier League this afternoon. Victory will move them behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference only.
