Investigation into cause of Brighstone blaze launched

AN investigation is now underway into the fire at a home in Brighstone.

The building hit by the blaze, pictured behind the white cottage, still requires damping down by firefighters.

Crews were called to Gaggerhill Lane at around 2am to the house fire.

The alarm was raised by residents at 1.30am.

Residents were evacuated as firefighters battled to stop the blaze spreading to neighbouring properties.

Fire crews from Newport, Freshwater, Yarmouth, Cowes and Shanklin attended the fire.

The incident has since been scaled back, with two fire engines and one aerial ladder platform damping down hotspots to prevent further spread of fire.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
