Work is still ongoing to determine the cause of a caravan blaze that claimed the life of a holidaymaker in east Suffolk, an inquest heard.

On Friday, the death of Ruth Pingree was discussed before Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich.

Ms Pingree, 42, died in the early hours of July 24, 2022 after the static caravan she was staying in at a site near Saxmundham caught fire.

The blaze broke out at about 4.40am and was confined to the one caravan.

The court heard that three other people, a man and two children, were able to escape the fire. They were injured and received treatment in hospital, but were otherwise unscathed.

It was reported that Ms Pingree was holidaying with her family from Surrey.

However, the court heard that Ms Pingree could not be rescued.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite the best efforts of all involved, Ms Pingree died at around 5.20am.

The court heard that further physical testing of exhibits is required in the investigation as to how Ms Pingree came by her death.

The inquest will resume at a date which will be agreed at a final pre-inquest review hearing held in September.
