Residents of Budleigh Salterton are invited to the Grand Opening celebration at the town's new cricket club.

Somerset cricket legend James Hildreth will cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of The Holt – the new home of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club - on Sunday, June 9.

With giant inflatables to keep the children happy, cricket matches, food and music, the club is inviting the town to come along to all, or part of, the day of celebration which will run from 10am.

A full schedule of events will be published closer to the time but BSCC Chairman Joel Murphy is keen that everyone gets the date in their diary.

He said: “The grand opening is a chance for the whole community to come together to celebrate our fantastic new home, The Holt. We moved into the clubhouse in November so this is our first season using its amazing facilities, changing rooms, bar etc for cricket as well as for community use.

“The public have been overwhelming in their support for what has been a monumental project for a relatively small sports club and we’d like to invite them to join us for a day of fun, cricket, food and celebration.”

As well as its own packed programme of junior, women’s, seniors and community league fixtures, the club has also hosted two major school tournaments each featuring teams from eight secondary schools, in the last few weeks. This week it is due to host its first festival for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

This week the club also launched its latest fundraiser – a Grand Draw – to fund the provision of disability cricket in Budleigh, with a top prize of £250 and many other prizes including a £100 voucher for Rockfish restaurant. Tickets priced at £1 are available at the club and at The Treasury shop in Budleigh High Street.
