Ione Skye shares last text exchange with Matthew Perry: 'I only have nice memories of you'
Ione Skye — best known as the object of John Cusack's boombox-toting affections in the classic Say Anything... — shared the last text messages she exchanged with Matthew Perry, who died Saturday in an apparent drowning in his home.
Skye starred alongside the late River Phoenix in 1988's A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, Perry's film debut. She posted a throwback photo of her with Perry along with their texts on Instagram, captioning her post, "I'm very, very sad. Loved this guy."

"Hi! I hope all is well. I was meditating (I meditate now) and 'In Your Eyes' started playing. And I instantly thought of how beautiful you are," Perry wrote in a text message sent to Skye on Oct. 15, referencing her iconic scene in Say Anything....

Directed by William Richert, A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon is a coming-of-age drama based on Richert's own 1966 novel, Aren't You Even Gonna Kiss Me Goodbye? Phoenix played the title character, a middle-class kid trying to figure out what to do after high school. Perry portrayed his best friend, the upper-class Fred Roberts, and Skye was his snobby girlfriend, Denise Hunter.
River Phoenix died of a drug overdose in 1993, a year before Perry landed his breakout role in Friends, while Skye continued acting as well as painting and later authored several children's books. Perry was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday at the age of 54.
