Celtic have reportedly entered the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk left-back Irakli Azarovi - according to sources in Georgia.

Brendan Rodgers will be looking to strengthen the position this summer, having failed in an attempt to land Liverpool youngster Owen Beck who returned for a second loan spell at Dundee back in January. Greg Taylor is currently the only recognised left back available to the Irishman, with Argentine defender Alexandro Bernabei being shipped out on loan to Internacional in Brazil.

And according to Georgian outlet, Geo Team on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Premiership champions are among a host of clubs who have registered an interest in the 22-year-old. The source claims that teams in Ligue 1 and Serie A club are also tracking Azarovi, who only joined Shakhtar from Serbian side Red Star Belgrade last summer. The left-back started his career in his native Georgia with Dinamo Tbilisi before moving onto Dinamo Batumi, has won three league championships in his homeland, as well as a league and cup double with Shakhtar in 2023/24.

Azarovi has won 18 caps for his country since his debut in 2021, scoring five times. He has also picked up some experience in European football, having featured in the Champions League for Shakhtar and in the Europa League for Red Star.

The defender has already had a taste of Scottish football could entail, having played against Steve Clarke's national team in his nation's successful qualification campaign for Euro 2024. The 22-year-old was left on the bench for the 2-0 defeat in Hampden in June last year but came off the bench for the final 18 minutes in the entertaining 3-3 draw in Tbilisi last October.
