Iraqi Christians Dance Through Baghdad Mall to Ring in the Holiday Season

With 84-foot-tall Christmas trees being erected in the center of the city, Baghdad’s Christian community rang in the holiday spirit a bit early on Wednesday as they danced their way through the second floor of the al-Nakheel Mall in downtown Baghdad.

Iraq’s Christian community has dwindled significantly since the 2003 American invasion of Iraq due to increased violence throughout the country, while thousands of those remaining have been displaced from their homes in northern Iraq by the military conquests of the Islamic State.
