Israel-Hamas war: 5 key developments from Gaza conflict on Monday 30 October

A German-Israeli woman who was snatched from the Nova music festival by Hamas before having her body paraded partially naked around the streets by militants has been confirmed dead.

Elsewhere, another hostage has been freed, while Hamas also released a video of three more abductees.

Here are the main stories from today:

1. Abducted German woman confirmed dead

• A German-Israeli woman who was kidnapped from the Nova music festival by Hamas is dead, her mother has confirmed.

• Sharni Louk, whose unconscious body was paraded through the streets by Hamas, was confirmed dead by the IDF, who told her family they had found a fragment of her skull without which she could not survive. Her body has not been discovered.

2. New Hamas hostage video

• Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned as "cruel psychological propaganda" a video released by Hamas of three more hostages. The video shows three woman - identified as Yelena Trupanob, Danielle Aloni and Rimon Kirsht - sitting side by side against a bare wall.

• In the video, Aloni addresses an angry message to Netanyahu, who has come under fire in Israel from the families of up to 220 hostages who want their loved ones freed. It is not clear if Aloni is being forced to make her comments.

3. Captured soldier freed

• An Israeli soldier has been freed from Hamas captivity during the military's ground operation, the military has said. The soldier, who has been named as Ori Megidish, was kidnapped by Hamas during the brutal incursion on 7 October that led to the deaths of some 1,400 Israelis.

• “The soldier was medically checked, is doing well, and has met with her family. The IDF and ISA will continue to do everything it takes in order to release the hostages,” the statement said. Israel is under mounting pressure to secure the release of up to 220 hostages taken by Hamas.

4. Tory MP sacked by Sunak

• Tory MP Paul Bristow has been sacked from his Government job after breaking ranks to publicly urge Rishi Sunak to push for a “permanent ceasefire” in Gaza.

• The ministerial aide at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology had written to the Prime Minister saying it would save lives. He has said that Palestinian civilians are facing a “collective punishment” as a result of Israel’s siege and airstrikes campaign in the wake of Hamas’s bloodshed.

5. Hundreds shelter in hospital

• People warned by Israel to evacuate the al Quds hospital in Gaza have remained in place as they have nowhere else to go, a doctor from north London who is working at al Shifa hospital in Gaza has said.

• "Nobody's left Shifa, nobody's leaving anywhere," Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah - told Sky News. "People have now realised with all the killing that's happened in the southern part and nobody wants to move."

• The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has said reports the Palestinian Red Crescent had received warnings from Israeli authorities to immediately evacuate al-Quds hospital in the Gaza Strip were "deeply concerning."

Where is Gaza?

Gaza, also known as the Gaza Strip, is a densely-populated Palestinian enclave on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, north-east of the Sinai Peninsula.

Bound by the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Israel to the north and east and Egypt to the south, it is just 25 miles long and six miles wide.

Gaza is one of two Palestinian territories. The other is the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
