Italian restaurant and piano bar The Candelabra opens in TV famous Gateshead hotel

Diners in Gateshead can now tuck into some hearty cuisine whilst being serenaded by some live piano music, as The Candelabra, inspired by its owner's love for Italian food and inspired by entertainment legend Liberace, has opened at a hotel famous for its appearance on a certain Channel 4 show.

Long before it appeared as one of the B&Bs on smash hit series Four in a Bed in 2022, Sutherlands was already an established favourite of many families in the Windy Nook area and beyond, thanks to its parties, soft play and Sunday dinners; well now, Sutherlands has two new strings to its bow, with food side of things being taken over by The Greedy Cow, who have been earning rave reviews for their roasts and the opening of The Candelabra.

With its decor looking very old school authentic Italian, with a mix of deep red and creams, The Candelabra opened its doors at Sutherlands at the start of this month, and has already been bringing in some brisk trade, thanks to the added bonus of a pianist playing while you eat and some very tempting specials including three courses for £12.95 and Sunday Steak Night.

Speaking to ChronicleLive about his hopes for his new venture and the inspiration behind it, owner Paul Rowe explained: "The Candelabra was a mix of my love of food good service and entertainment. When I was 16 I worked in a restaurant called Il Padrinos in South Shields; I fell in love with the fast and furious way the food went out and some years later ended up being a rep in Sorrento. The passion for food and service was reignited."

Paul added: "The Candelabra is the only Italian restaurant in the area and we have added the piano to it based around Liberace . My nana lived Felling so to be involved in a community hub like The Greedy Cow and Candelabra, part of Sutherlands Hotel, makes me immensely proud . It's a real community and I'm privileged and proud to serve it"
