Fans of The 1% Club have been left "gutted" as the popular Saturday primetime show, hosted by comedian Lee Mack, is set to air its last episode of the current series on May 25.

The programme, which has captivated ITV viewers for weeks, announced the news via Twitter on Monday, stating: "This Saturday will be the last episode of this current series. The episode was filmed quite a while ago. Anyone recognise one of the contestants playing here before she made her other TV appearance? We absolutely loved having her on the show - she was great fun! #the1percentclub".

Accompanying the post was an image from the studio, showcasing a contestant on the big screen, prompting fans to speculate about the identity of the well-known participant, reports the Daily Star.

One enthusiast commented: "Looking forward to watching the last episode and to see Yinrun from Big Brother! " Another echoed: "Yes, Yinrun of Big Brother! "

Meanwhile, some viewers expressed their disappointment at the prospect of waiting for new episodes, with comments such as "Last Episode of the series. Wow that gone quick." Someone else chimed: "Gutted that it is the last episode of the series! "

It comes as The 1% Club experienced an unexpected twist in its latest episode. A staggering 32 contestants were sent packing from the game in the episode that aired on May 18 after tripping up on a tricky question.

Host Lee was visibly shocked by the unusual occurrence, remarking: "Wow. That is massive. 32 people went out on that one!" The tricky question that caused such a commotion was: Which of these would it be impossible to do?, (A) Marry your cousin's cousin (B) Marry your brother's widow (C) Marry your widow's sister.

It was option C that caught most contestants off guard, leading Lee to explain: "You would not be able to marry your widow's sister as you would already be dead. Before we get any complaints - I accept that is a bit zombie-ist."

The show's format pits a hundred participants against each other and the clock, as they tackle various puzzles and brain teasers, all vying for a share of the £100,000 prize pot.

Usually, only a few contestants are eliminated per round, which made this mass exit particularly noteworthy.
