Britain's Got Talent viewers spotted a problem moments into tonight's new season.

Ant and Dec returned to front the first episode of the 17th series as the hunt to find the UK's next star got underway. Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli and Simon Cowell were back in the judges' chairs to see which acts could progress and potentially win the chance to perform at the Royal Variety.

The judges were amazed with the first act of the season as they were transformed like viewers had never seen before. RASK AI used technology to edit the judges' faces onto singers who performed the title track from the Greatest Showman.

Simon was wowed with the performance and the group progressed through to the next round. However, viewers following the show on X were confused by Simon's surprise as a similar act using AI technology competed on America's Got Talent last year.

Tim said: "America’s Got Talent had an act like “Rask” on #BGT in a previous series, personally I thought the AGT act was better"

Abbie added: "wasn’t this exact same act on America’s Got Talent??"

Liv commented: "Simon Cowell shocked by AI performance despite the fact he’s seen it multiple times in AGT"

Ben posted: "Simon saying this first #BGT act is original is a joke when there’s been the same thing on #AGT two years ago."

@MrBlueSky said: "Deepfakes already been done on AGT. First act immediately boring"
