ITV The Chase fans fume as they slam Bradley Walsh for 'unfair' answer

ITV The Chase fans were left furious on Wednesday evening after host Bradley Walsh refused to accept an answer after the contestant pronounced it wrong.

During the final round, contestant Charlie said "Franco Dettori" instead of Frankie Dettori, and the 63-year-old presenter refused to give him a point for it.

Viewers were left unimpressed by his decision which they deemed as "unfair" as they flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their opinion on the situation, the Express reports.

One angry social media user said: "Oooh I think Franco should have been allowed! He is Lanfranco Dettori - we know him as Frankie - seems unfair #thechase."

Another echoed: "Brad should have given him Franco #thechase."

A third agreed: "Bradley Walsh always says ‘my team’ but that’s b******s. He does whatever he can to hinder them."

Somebody else fumed: "They'd better not lose in the last second, the Dettori answer should have been allowed #TheChase."

A fifth added: "#TheChase Frankie Dettoris name is Lanfranco they should have an extra point."

While a sixth wrote: "#thechase not giving them the point when he said Franco Dettori was a bit mean being as though his actual name is Lanfranco." (sic)

After the klaxon went off and the round finished, Bradley exclaimed: "That was a shocking start, one of the worst starts for a team of four I've seen in a long while.

"And then all of a sudden, we've got a rhythm and got going, and look where you are now. 21, brilliant. All you can do now is pray he makes a mistake."

Chaser Mark Labbett, better known as The Beast, returned to the game show in an attempt to stop the team from winning the whopping £52,000.

The Gladiators host told him: "I tell you what, for one minute there, I thought we were staring down a 13 or 14 but after their disastrous start, they ended up hitting 12 on the bounce."

The team managed to answer 21 questions correctly despite their "disastrous" final round.

However, they didn't do enough to secure the £52,000 cash prize after The Beast answered all of his questions right, leaving them with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
