Recently Coronation Street fans have been shocked by the news that Helen Worth, who plays the long-standing character Gail Platt, is leaving the show.

It has also been rumoured that Sue Nicholls might be on the verge of quitting Coronation Street. The veteran actress, 80, has been portraying the character of hairdresser Audrey Roberts in the ITV soap since 1984.

With the recent announcement that her on-screen daughter Gail is set to depart after an impressive tenure of more than 50 years former scriptwriter Daran Little has suggested that Sue may also decide to leave. On X, formerly Twitter, Daran posted: "My gut feeling is Sue won't want to stay long without Helen. No insider knowledge, just a feeling." For the latest TV and showbiz news sign up to our newsletter.
