Coronation Street actor Ciaran Griffiths has secretly got married just weeks after his departure from the popular soap. The 41 year old played Damon Hay for two years on the ITV soap.

He posed with his new wife in front of Sydney Opera House in stunning wedding photos. Originally hailing from Manchester, Ciaran now resides in Australia with his wife and son.

He moved there in 2019 for a theatre production and met his future wife. Speaking about juggling work and home life, the actor shared: "It was hard the first time, but my son is a bit older now, he understands a bit more so I don't feel as guilty leaving him, even though I'm doing it for them anyway."

He added: "But the weather's terrible, I'm never ill in Australia, yet I get here and straight away I've got a cold!"

Ciaran, also known for his role in Shameless, exited Corrie last month. His character Damon found himself behind bars for armed robbery, coerced into the crime by his brother Harvey Gaskell.

Despite having the chance to betray Harvey and gain freedom to be with girlfriend Sarah Platt, he chose to plead guilty and face prison time alongside Harvey. He bid farewell to Sarah during a prison visit, telling her: "You've got to walk away. I'm sorry, it's my decision. Goodbye Sarah."

A source at the time said: "Ciaran's loved his time on the show but Damon's story came to a natural end for now. The door has been left open but for now it's time to say goodbye to him."
