ITV Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney gives heartbreaking update after loss

Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has been inundated with messages from fans after she shared a gut-wrenching update on social media. It comes following the heartbreaking loss of her Brookside co-star Dean Sullivan last year.

The 53-year-old was left devastated following the news of his tragic death last November following a short illness. The actor, best known for playing Jimmy Corkhill in the Merseyside TV soap, died aged 68 following a diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2018.

Claire, who played his daughter Lindsey Corkhill in the former Channel 4 soap, was among those gathered at the funeral service in December to say her final goodbyes to her beloved friend, Manchester Evening News reports.

The ITV actress, famed as Cassie Plummer on the Cobbles, has now taken to Instagram on Thursday to share a string of snaps. There was various bittersweet memories in the post, featuring the late Paul O'Grady and Claire's ex-partner Alan Miller.

Sharing the photos with her 163k followers, she paired the track of Dusty Springfield's Yesterday When I Was Young alongside the montage. Claire captioned the photos: "I was sent some photos from Dean Sullivan’s house, thank you Jamie.

"They have really moved me, especially to see that 4 of these special men have passed over. I will treasure the pics and these memories RIP Dean Sullivan, Alan Miller, Gary Lawson and Paul O’Grady."

Fans rushed to the comments to share their support, with one writing: "Beautiful memories Claire , Brookside was great ,Dean was a major great character. RIP beautiful man." Another added: "Such great pics. Lovely men."

Someone else wrote: "Lovely memories. Alan Miller was a great goalie at West Brom, such a gentleman. Remember seeing you at games cheering them on. Loved you on Brookie too with Dean…happy days."

A fourth quipped: "Such lovely memories. I loved watching brookside. It must make you sad to think they are no longer with you but you are lucky to have great memories."

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo following Dean's funeral, Claire shared how special it was to be reunited with the late star at the British Soap Awards last year and said his legacy will always be remembered.

She said: "Everyone loved Dean. When he walked out at the Soap Awards, there was a gasp. There's Jimmy Corkhill. He was a legendary character. The final shot at the very last episode was on Dean. He was the epitome of Brookside and he was wonderful."
