Vicky Myers' importance to Coronation Street is only growing.

The soap star star first arrived on the Cobbles as DS Lisa Swain in 2021. The character was a hit with fans and has recently been upgraded to become a full time cast member.

DS Swain has become one of the show's most interesting characters and fans are about to get a further insight into her background as fans were introduced to her daughter, Betsy, on Friday's episode. Vicky confirmed DS Swain is here to stay and said it is an honour to play such a key role in the long-running soap.

She told the ECHO: "It's been pretty overwhelming actually. I have received so many messages and letters. I've had Taylor Swift friendship bracelets made."

DS Swain is an LGBTQ+ character and Vicky said it has been a privilege to represent the community on screen. She said: "I've had letters from this one young lady who really opened up about her journey and her coming out story. It is a real privilege and honour to portray this character.

"And for viewers to feel they can relate to her. Representation and inclusivity is so massively important. As we all know. With that comes a level of responsibility and, with that, I really do take that on board and it is an honour."

In the show, DS Swain's wife, Becky, died while working as a police officer and Vicky said the show will explore how this has caused a fractious relationship with Betsy. She added: "One of the questions I asked myself is I wonder what the relationship was like before when it was the three musketeers and how it's changed and the impact that would have had on Betsy.

"Especially in her early teens and her formative years with Lisa. She did what she felt was the right thing to do and went back into work. She did that because she thought it was the right thing to do, but, inadvertently, it's pushed Betsy away. There's so much to unpack between the two of them because they're so full of fear."

Fans have enjoyed seeing the blossoming friendship between DS Swain and Carla. She said the two characters work well on screen because of their shared personality traits.

She said: "She's a powerful woman, strong and not frightened of sharing her opinions. She's got a huge heart because she was there to offer her hand and be somebody to talk to.

She added: "I think that would be really lovely for her to have, a friend. But also Carla drinks red wine so why not."

Vicky is close with her castmembers away from the screen and has taken her onscreen daughter, played by Sydney Martin, under her wing. Sydney was emotional as she thanked Vicky for her support and branded her as her second mum.

She said: "In another universe, we were definitely mother and daughter. We're so similar.

"Vicky had got me flowers on my first day. She made me feel so appreciated. It's such a fast paced environment and everyone's supportive but Vicky really went out of her way just to make sure I was looked after and to have that motherly figure has been so lovely.

"I moved away from home at 18 and to come into a new industry and have someone be so supportive is really touching. Everyone has been so welcoming. Sometimes you need that [mum] energy, especially when it's like you're a small fish in a big pond.

"But I've been truly looked after so I feel really grateful."
