Britain's Got Talent champion, Sydnie Christmas, delivered a stunning performance of Over the Rainbow last night.

The 'novice' singer's powerful rendition was a hit with both the judges and viewers - who voted in their thousands to crown Sydnie as their 2024 winner. Celebrating her victory, Sydnie spent a low-key evening at Wetherspoons with friends and confessed on This Morning that she hasn't yet checked her bank account for the £250,000 prize following the whirlwind events.

Despite her excitement over the impressive win, the star with the festive name is not new to the limelight. The 28-year-old singer has a wealth of musical and acting experience, leading some viewers to allege that BGT was "fixed as f*** as she's had a singing career before".

The crooner from Kent, who was working as a gym receptionist when she first appeared on the ITV talent show, says she 'didn't fit' in the entertainment industry amid the backlash. Simon Cowell also defended her, stating: "You know what was interesting? I worked out, I don't think a single act tonight were professionals. They all had a regular job and they did something extraordinary.", reports the Mirror.

However, Sydnie is no stranger to the limelight. Here's what ITV didn't tell you about the BGT winner....

Reality TV 'struggle'

Sydnie featured in the E4 programme, Stage School, which aired for two seasons in 2016 and 2017, highlighting the real struggles of students studying performing arts.

The show followed a variety of scenarios, from romantic disputes to stage dramas. One viewer recognised Sydnie's TV experience when she appeared on stage at the London Palladium, posting on X: "I knew I recognised the girl's name who got the golden buzzer on last night's #BritainsGotTalent. "Sydnie Christmas was on the E4 reality show stage school that aired a few years ago now.

It was a cross between Glee and TOWIE. "It seems Sydnie was a standout performer on Stage School, as one viewer commented at the time: "Finally someone who can sing on Stage School. Sydnie. "

Theatre roles

While there have been suggestions that Sydnie has extensive West End experience, the singer denies this, telling the Mirror: 'I've done loads of auditions to get into the West End. It's always knock backs, always that you don't fit. However, she does have significant theatre experience, having made her debut in London as one of the lead voices in Lazarus, featuring the music of David Bowie, at the King's Cross Theatre. Sydnie shared a backstage photo of Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson after he attended the show.On her Spotify page, she shares: "Recently I just finished a musical called 'Lazarus', For those of you who loved David Bowie you would have loved this.

Lazarus was on at the Kings Cross theatre in London. I was lucky enough to act along side the lovely Michael c hall, which some may recognise him in the Netflix series 'DEXTER' This was an amazing experience and helped me fully appreciate who David Bowie was and what he gave to the world.

Sydnie has also showcased her talent on cruise ships including the Royal Caribbean International, where she starred as Rizzo in the musical Grease and in a German production of Starlight Express in 2019 as Belle the Bar Car.

Record contract

There are whispers that Sydnie secured a record deal four years before making her debut on BGT. Her Instagram page promotes her track One Night Only in 2020, with the caption: "Hope You all enjoy this CRAZY video as much as we did making it."

Meanwhile, her X, formerly Twitter, page promotes her singles on Spotify, Apple Music and iTune, which include a track called Heal Me.

Movies

In addition to appearing on E4 and most recently, ITV, Sydnie has also graced the big screen, boasting a credit for film, Kick Ass 2. When the full casting was announced for the European premiere of Lazarus, the musical by Enda Walsh and the David Bowie, which transfers from New York, Sydnie is credited with appearing in the black comedy superhero film, starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

The singer's role in the film, which is based on the second and third books of Kick-Ass The Dave Lizewski Years, remains a mystery as it is not listed on Sydnie's IMDB page.
