ITV This Morning's Cat Deeley blasted for 'stupid' epilepsy joke as fans demand apology

This Morning's Cat Deeley has faced an angry backlash from viewers after she made an ill-judged quip about having a "seizure".

The presenter was dancing to a Meghan Trainor song on the ITV show when she made the remark. The 47-year-old was fronting yesterday's show with Ben Shephard and were getting ready to welcome the pop star to the sofa to discuss her single, romance with husband Daryl Sabara and juggling work with mum life.

Before sitting down with the 30-year-old, they teased the upcoming interview while her first hit single All About That Bass played in the background. As the talk show returned from its break, Cat was dancing to the tune with her co-star looking at her strangely.

Cat said: "Nothing to see here" before Ben asked: "You alright? OK". Cat then said: "Yeah I’m fine. Just having a seizure. Welcome back."

The Express reports how Ben then uncomfortably laughed at her joke before she continued to tease the interview with Trainor, with the camera turning to the singer waiting behind the scenes.

The comment sparked an angry response from fans and the Epilepsy Society. The charity wrote on X saying: "Seizures are no laughing matter for people with #epilepsy @catdeeley. Please do better and educated yourselves about this difficult and poorly understood condition, @thismorning."

One viewer replied: "This is heartbreaking to see do know there are many types of seizures and to see you mocking people who have them is very upsetting. I have nearly lost my child a few times to seizures and is extremely poorly. Maybe you should do a story on epilepsy to see what goes on."

Another wrote: "I've had seizures for many years and something said like she did should be apologised for. I certainly didn't like it at all. If she had seizures, she wouldn't be saying anything like that."

A third said: "I heard this too, seizure free for 15 plus years luckily however still thought this was offensive! Not good."

A fourth commented: "Wow @catdeeley @thismorningchoose your words more wisely! You really think seizures are funny!? What a stupid thing to say and then snigger at!"

Another person said: "Did Cat Deeley actually just say that! This Morning, not so sure people who actually do have seizures will appreciate such a stupid comment!"
