Ivanka Trump booed as she calls her father a 'champion of women'

Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka has been booed at an event in Germany after defending her father’s attitude towards women.

The businesswoman, who has been dubbed the First Daughter, given her influence over her father’s decision-making, was speaking at the G20 women’s summit in Berlin.

She was joined on the panel by German chancellor, Angela Merkel, and IMF managing director Christine Lagarde.

But after she told the room her father was a “tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive”, the audience groaned.

The panel’s moderator then asked Trump to respond to the audience’s collective reaction.

She said that she had “heard the criticism from the media, and that has been perpetuated”, but said she did not recognise her father in the description.

She added nor would the “thousands” of women he had employed and worked with over the years.

“He encouraged me and enabled me to thrive. I grew up in a house where there were no barriers to what I could accomplish,” she said.

Donald Trump has been criticised over his attitude to women, particularly after a tape of him making obscene remarks about “grabbing” women was leaked during his presidential campaign.

Numerous tweets have also been criticised.

During the campaign, he used language many deemed as misogynist, such as “fat slob” and “disgusting”, to describe women who criticised him.

On his first day in office, he signed a ban on federal money going to international groups that perform or provide information on abortions.

Ivanka’s role in the White House has come under heavy scrutiny.

She holds a strong influence within the White House as his adviser, and is reported to be a calming force on him.

However, she has also faced criticism for a clear apparent conflict of interest after members of the Trump campaign heavily promoted her fashion label. Many have argued she is also out of her depth as she has no previous experience of government office.
