Although it is a well-worn film and TV trope that people often struggle to get along with their in-laws, for some people it is no problem at all.

For lucky couples, they are embraced by their partner's nearest and dearest and they become another member of the family - and that is the ideal situation for most people.

But one woman doesn't know whether or not she gets on with her in-laws as she has never met them - despite having been in a relationship with her husband for 15 years, The Mirror reports.

Sharing her surprising story on Mumsnet, she revealed that she doesn't go to family occasions and doesn't even go on calls with her in-laws, other than briefly saying "hello" during one video call.

Although she claims it has not caused any issues in their relationship so far, her in-laws are growing tired of her husband's excuses - and he has agreed that it is high time his wife met his family.

The woman wrote: "I have never met nor appeared on video chat with my family-in-law." Though she did clarify that once she popped up to greet her mother-in-law before quickly leaving the video call.

She continued: "They've also witnessed me trying to pass by without being noticed, walking on my knees."

Her husband's siblings have been "pestering" him to get to speak to her, or even see a picture of her. The woman said: "I've refused so far."

But her partner has now said that "it's time" to bring them together virtually, as he wants to put an end to his family repeatedly messaging him about it. But the woman is unconvinced.

The wife said: "I hate appearing on film and would have no idea what to say. I feel the fact it's gone on so long just makes it seem even weirder to suddenly decide to talk to them."

The woman asked fellow forum-users whether she was being "unreasonable" to refuse - both at this time and for the past 15 years. The vast majority believed that her behaviour was strange at that she should meet her in-laws.

One user replied: "Yes you're being really weird". Another commented: "Yes, you are the most unreasonable of unreasonable people on unreasonable day in unreasonable land."

A third said: "15 years and you've never said hello to them? I find that strange. It seems natural to introduce yourself and make an effort to be part of your [husband's] family."
