A suspected ivory poacher has been trampled by elephants and then his remains eaten by lions in South Africa.

The poacher’s family were informed by accomplices that he was killed by an elephant in Kruger National Park on Tuesday.

A pride of lions then devoured his remains.

A search party was instructed to find the poacher’s body, but only a skull and a pair of trousers were found by Thursday.

The managing executive of the park sent his condolences to the poacher’s family and also released a statement after his death.

“Entering Kruger National Park illegally and on foot is not wise,” he said. “It holds many dangers and this incident is evidence of that.”

It’s believed there are around 2,000 in Kruger National Park.
