Barry Ferguson doesn't want to see Jack Butland going anywhere this summer but is concerned Rangers may HAVE to sell him.

The goalkeeper has been by far and away the biggest success of Michael Beale's expensive summer splurge last year. Whilst pricey flops have taken an age to get going and still haven't convinced, or even been jettisoned altogether, the free transfer has been a revelation between the sticks. Nottingham Forest were sent packing when they made a January enquiry and it would take a big offer to get the Ibrox hierarchy contemplating a sale.

But Philippe Clement has outlined his plans for this summer and that's given former Gers skipper Ferguson cause for concern. A number of Light Blues stars are out of contract, but others that the Belgian may want to move on still have time to run on their deals. To shift those, Rangers will either need to reach agreements to end contracts early, or drum up enough interest to cash in. Butland is guaranteed to have suitors this summer and would easily command the biggest fee.

With the amount of surgery needed after a failed title tilt, Ferguson fears that taking the money for Butland may be the most economical way of funding upgrades elsewhere. He told GO Radio: "He's the concern for me.

"Now, Jack Butland's come up here and you saw him again on Saturday. He's a phenomenal goalkeeper. But he is Rangers' prize asset. He's the one that's worth the most money.

"I'm sure there are clubs down in England that would take Jack Butland in a minute, because he's come back up here and shown it. He's played the fll season, virtually every single game and he's been Rangers' best player by a country mile.

"And that is a major concern for me, that Rangers may lose him. But they might need to go and do something like that to bring in money to go and rebuild the squad. I tell you what, he'll be a hard guy to replace because he's top class."
