Jack Grealish is keeping a close eye on Aston Villa's progress and has revealed he still speaks to the club's physios three years after leaving for Manchester City.

The England international became the first British player to command a nine figure transfer fee as he departed boyhood club Villa for £100m in the summer of 2021. Grealish has since won two Premier League titles and the Champions League under Pep Guardiola.

He captained Villa under Dean Smith for two full seasons and in the back end of the 2018/19 campaign, helping Villa achieve promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs. He had missed months of that campaign due to a shin injury, but his return galvanised the club.

After then helping Villa remain in the top-flight, he penned a new contract in September 2020 which had a £100m release clause for Champions League clubs. He departed the following year to join City after they activated it.

Villa are close to securing Champions League qualifcation themselves following the remarkable job which Unai Emery has performed since replacing Steven Gerrard 18 months ago.

"I watch them [Villa] all the time when they are on TV and I still look out for their results," Grealish told Sky Sports. "I have close friends there and even people behind the scenes, like the doctor and the physios I still speak to and the masseuses.

"Obviously I am close with them all and they are like family to me. I always want them to do well for them and for the fans and the club itself as well."

Asked who his best friend in football is, Grealish said: "It’s difficult because I have a few best friends and I don’t want to upset any of them! Callum Robinson and John McGinn, those two.

"Obviously I am close with a lot of people and I know Erling [Haaland] said me before so I feel bad now. Erling’s best friend is Sander Berge in football, but I think he meant me at City."
