Jack Osbourne Remembers Living It Up on the Set of “Dawson’s Creek” — Against His Mom’s Wishes

Sharon Osbourne warned her son “No partying” during his time on the hit series

Jack Osbourne apparently had a blast on the set of Dawson’s Creek — despite mom Sharon Osbourne instructing him to behave himself.

On the most recent episode of The Osbournes Podcast, Jack, 38, reminisced about his time on the hit teen drama, which aired on The WB from 1998 to 2003. The then-16-year-old reality TV star and son of shock rocker Ozzy Osbourne appeared in several episodes of Dawson’s Creek’s sixth and final season, playing a version of himself who was a childhood friend of Busy Philipps’s character, Audrey Liddell.

The trip down memory lane was prompted by a question from a listener, who wanted to know how Jack enjoyed his recurring role on Dawson’s Creek and what he thought of the show’s cast.

“Man, I remember being really, like, I don't know, just shy,” Jack recalled. “Super nervous. Very nervous. And it was great meeting everyone.”

“You know, James Van Der Beek became a friend later on because he has kids similar age to mine,” he said of the Dawson’s Creek star. “So, we used to hang out when they lived in L.A. Then him and his wife moved to Texas.”

“It was just a fun experience,” Jack added. “I could remember [Joshua] Jackson being really, like, kinda confused.”

Before he could explain why Jackson was confused, sister Kelly Osbourne interjected, asking if her brother remembered what their mother told him before he went to Wilmington, North Carolina, to film his Dawson’s Creek scenes.

“Be polite?” Jack replied. “Oh, no drinking.”

“No partying,” Kelly corrected. “Because this was the wild days.”

“And did you just listen?” Sharon asked.

“No. I remember, actually, going out drinking one night with Josh [Jackson],” Jack said. “Lived it up.”

As Kelly alluded, Jack struggled with alcohol abuse and drug addiction as a teenager before entering rehab and getting sober at the age of 17 — not long after his time on Dawson’s Creek.

“I don't want my life to be controlled by a drug,” he told MTV shortly after his finishing a two-month rehabilitation treatment in 2003.

In April 2023, Jack marked 20 years of sobriety with an Instagram post detailing all the struggles and triumphs of the past two decades.

“I can remember being a newcomer and thinking about how old I would be at 20 years sober and what it would be like. I can say it’s nothing like what I imagined,” he wrote. “5, 10, or 15 years felt like such impossibility when I was new, but it didn’t just happen, it came from hard work and a desire to never go back to the place I was in.”

“I know in my heart and soul that the life I have lived is a complete byproduct of working the 12 steps, surrounding myself with like minded sober people, and being of service to where I can,” he continued. “I know I can never stop trying to improve and get better. For people who are new just trust me and give this your all. It leads to so many wonderful things but also teaches you how to deal when it isn’t wonderful.”
