Jack Quaid Agrees — He Is a Nepo Baby

Jack Quaid, the son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, has seen the comments about him being a nepo baby — and he agrees with them.

In a conversation with The Daily Beast tied to The Boys season four, he addressed speculation that he was able to have a career as an actor because of his parents, sharing that he is “inclined to agree” with those claims.

“I am an immensely privileged person, was able to get representation pretty early on and that’s more than half the battle,” he told the outlet. “I knew the door was open for me in a lot of ways that it’s just not for a lot of actors. And I’ve just tried to work as hard as I possibly can to prove that I deserve to walk through that door.”

Quaid’s comments come a few months after his mother spoke to Glamour ahead of the release of her film What Happens Later. She noted that she remembers seeing him in a middle school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and realizing how talented he was. But she worried that his connection to her and his father would take away from people seeing what he could do.

“Jack is really talented,” she told the magazine at the time. “He’s more of a natural than I’ll ever be. That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege.”

Quaid told The Daily Beast he had seen the interview, and his first thought was that she was just being a loving mom. He explained that he didn’t think she was saying he wasn’t a nepo baby but more so pointing out that she didn’t want it to undermine his talent.

“I don’t think it undermines my talent,” he said. “I know that I work hard, and I know I’ve heard ‘no’ way more than I’ve heard ‘yes.’ But I also know that this industry is insanely hard to break into, and I had an easier time doing that than most. Both things can be true. So, no, I don’t think she was trying to say that I’m not a privileged person. She knows. She must know.”
