Jackass star Bam Margera has said he was basically "pronounced dead" after suffering several seizures during a recent illness.

The TV star, 43, said he was ill with a "gnarly" case of COVID in December and ended up in the hospital.

Opening up on his co-star Steve-O's Wild Ride! podcast, he said: "I basically was pronounced dead on Elvis' birthday 8th December, did not know that I had like, gnarly COVID, my body was shutting down and I went into four seizures."

"On the fourth one, I bit my tongue so hard, it was like, nearly falling off,” he said.

“It got so swollen and puffy and wouldn’t fit in my mouth and I was drinking infected blood, which gave me pneumonia as well."

The TV star spent several days in the hospital.

He said that when he woke up he did not realise how long he had been there.

He said: "I woke up five days later thinking I was there for a couple hours, they're like, 'Dude you've been here for nearly a week. We tried to take the tube out, and you weren't breathing on your own'."

Margera, a former professional skateboarder, previously posted a message on Instagram to let his fans know that he was out of hospital and doing better.

"I’m out!" posted the star.
