Aston Villa duo Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia are stepping up their recovery from respective injuries at a football campus in Portugal.

Alongside Villa's senior rehab physiotherapist Jon Whitney and coach Alberto Carbo Benavent, both players are readying themselves for pre-season, with Villa's first friendly coming in 16 days against Walsall at the Bescot Stadium. It is unclear at this stage when either player will be fit enough to feature in a pre-season game, but Unai Emery will take every caution over the summer and will not rush either back.

Buendia suffered an ACL injury just days before Villa's opening game of last season against Newcastle United and was ruled out for the whole campaign as a result. Ramsey, meanwhile, endured a stop-start season while dealing with a foot injury which he first sustained over the summer while on international duty with England U21s.

Ramsey only managed to start eight Premier League games and featured in just 21 of the 56 matches Villa played across all competitions last term. The 23-year-old is of interest to Tottenham this summer, but he is settled at his boyhood club and Villa do not want to sell him.

Johan Lange is driving Spurs' pursuit of Ramsey and will unlikely be deterred by Villa's reluctance to sell him after they cleared their issues regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by selling Douglas Luiz for €50m to Juventus.

After being forced off in the win over Luton Town back in April, Villa stopped Ramsey's season so he could rest and recuperate in the final months of the campaign and in the lead up to pre-season.

Having both players back for the start of the Premier League season would give Emery a big boost as they'd be like new signings considering their injuries woes last term.
