A nursery nurse whose jaw was broken when she was "flung 15ft in the air like a pinball" from a fairground ride has agreed a five-figure payout.

Jade Harrison, 24, spent four days in hospital after she was catapulted from a travelling funfair ride in Hull in October 2019.

She lay unconscious on the platform of the Sizzler ride after smashing into a teenager, who suffered abdominal injuries, when she was flung from the nearby Airmaxx 360 attraction.

Harrison was rushed to hospital and treated for a broken jaw, which left her with severe dental injuries and metal plates in her face.

Harrison underwent more than £4,000 worth of specialist dental treatment.

The insurers of the Airmaxx 360 ride's owners, Taylor's Funfairs of Cumbria, paid for the treatment after the operators accepted liability for the injuries. She has now also agreed an out-of-court settlement.

Harrison took legal action after being told in hospital that had a child suffered the same accident, they would likely have died.

She said: "There are too many cases of accidents at fairs and theme parks and when something like this happens there has to be full investigations and punishments.

"That will hopefully lead to better safety standards and less incidents like what happened to me."

Insurers acting on behalf of Taylor's Funfairs admitted liability for the accident and injuries caused.

Despite the trauma, Harrison said she no longer suffered from anxiety, but she is a "different person" than she was in 2019.

She added: "Back then I had no fears and I was up for anything really, but now I am averse to anything that has an element of risk.

"We recently visited Skegness and I just couldn't go on any rides. Some of my family went on them, but I didn't want them to."

Rebecca Cone, of Hudgell Solicitors, said she was pleased to reach an agreement and a five-figure compensation offer without a need to take the case to court.

She said: "This was a horrific accident which has obviously had a significant impact on Jade, so we were grateful for the early admission of liability by the defendants as this ensured we were able to push ahead and secure Jade psychological treatment quickly."
