Jadon Sancho talks not a distraction for Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer focuses on Europa League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined not to let Jadon Sancho create a distraction as Manchester United set their sights on the Europa League.

He shut down all attempts to engage in debate about his top transfer target after United secured their place in the semi-final with a 1-0 win against Copenhagen on Monday.

“I can't comment on other teams' players, you know that,” he said. “I never do.”

Instead, Solskjaer wants to focus on the thrilling forward line already at his disposal - with Anthony Martial earning rave reviews for his outstanding performance in Cologne.

He said: “Anthony's developed throughout the season. He’s impossible to stop at times when he gets the ball to his feel and drives at people, he can go either way, only thing now is to put the ball in the net again but delighted with performance.”

It was a virtuoso display from Martial, while Mason Greenwood once again demonstrated his remarkable potential, seeing one goal ruled out for offside and also hitting the woodwork with another ferocious effort.

But it was Martial who stood out.

United legend Paul Scholes said: "I like him, I've always liked him. I thought was he a No.9, or is he a wide player?

“He’s turned himself into a No.9 with every game I watch, more and more, so it’s great to see. He’s turned himself into a proper No9. When he's square on to a player and runs at them, I think he’s unstoppable.”

As impressed as Scholes has been with Martial’s development, he still believes United need to get a deal for Sancho over the line.

After Dortmund sporting director claimed a move for the winger was now dead, Scholes told BT Sport: “They’re just after a bit more money. He looks a brilliant player and I think he'll improve any team in world football with his assists and his goals.

“United were desperate for (Erling Braut) Haaland as well and they didn’t quite go that extra mile to pay the money.

“Will they do it for Sancho? I think they will, if Ole desperately wants him they’ll get him.”
