What Jake Clarke Salter would cost Celtic as transfer price tag revealed to land wanted QPR star
Celtic have discovered the fee they would need to shell out to land QPR star Jake Clarke-Salter – according to a report.
Brendan Rodgers' side have been previously named as an interested party in the defender this summer but face big competition from England from both the English Premier League and Championship with the likes of Wolves, top flight new boys Ipswich Town, Burnley, Stoke City and Crystal Palace all said to be keen on a deal. The 26-year-old featured 33 times in the second tier as his current club finished 18th in the standings.
The Telegraph report the Potters have made the stopper a 'top summer target' but more notably for Celtic is the price element of day deal with it stated it would cost between £5-7million to prize him out of Loftus Road this summer. It is a price range that fits the bill in terms of the Hoops' recruitment with previous transfers in that bracket happening in recent times including Christopher Jullien for £7m under Neil Lennon.
Rodgers is likely to bring in fresh faces to the heart of his defence with it proving a problem position this season. The campaign started with an injury crisis with Cameron Carter-Vickers - who has had a couple of spells out this term - missing and Carl Starfelt sold. Liam Scales looked to be on the way out at the start of the campaign but he's now a key man while Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke are down the pecking order with Stephen Welsh also in and out.
Clarke-Salter - under contract at QPR until 2026 - started his career at Chelsea before spending stints on loan at the likes of Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, Birmingham City and Coventry before his move to QPR.
