Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva LIVE: Stream, latest updates and fight result tonight

Jake Paul stayed unbeaten in his professional boxing venture on Saturday night, outpointing UFC legend Anderson Silva after knocking down the Brazilian in the final round. Paul, 25, was a victor on all three judges’ scorecards after the full eight rounds (77-74, 78-73, 78-73), improving his record to 6-0 (4 knockouts).

Prior to the cruiserweight main event in Arizona, the American had knocked out each opponent he had faced, including former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in his last fight – 10 months ago. Meanwhile, 47-year-old Silva entered the Desert Diamond Arena with a 3-1 pro boxing record and a points win over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to his name.

While Silva increased his activity after a slow start against Paul, the YouTube star improved as the cruiserweight contest wore on, and he dropped the Brazilian in the last of the eight rounds to wrap up a points victory. “It’s a surreal moment,” Paul said after the fight. “Hard work pays off. I want to thank Anderson Silva; he was my hero growing up. He took so many hard shots over the fight. He’s a dog.” Paul then called out UFC icon Nate Diaz, who was involved in an altercation near Paul’s locker room at the Desert Diamond Arena.

Round 8

Final round! Will Silva’s decreased output in these last couple of rounds cost him?

A right uppercut lands for Silva! Now he’s teeing off, trying to get a finish, which he may well need...

But Paul drops Silva with a right overhand at the end of a combination! The Brazilian falls onto his backside.

He beats the referee’s count! He’s bleeding from the nose...

Paul with a grazing left hook. Silva keeps pressing forward; both men are landing hooks in close. Then both fighters land short right hands.

A good finish for Silva, but that will be a 10-8 round to Paul, who has surely taken this on points...

Paul vs Silva LIVE

Round 7

Not for the first time, the referee warned Silva for throwing punches at the bell; Silva doesn’t seem to have done that once, though. Odd officiating tonight.

Two rounds to go! More booing as Silva fights somewhat passively for the time being. Paul throws a right cross to the body and a left hook.

More hooks to the body, then a right hook to the head! Good combination from Paul, who may be scoring points at just the right time now. A right cross to the body is on point for the American.

Silva starts to build some momentum again, with Paul on the ropes, but the YouTuber clinches to slow things down.

Paul vs Silva LIVE

Round 6

It’s evident that Silva is the best fighter that Paul has fought.

Paul just about lands a right cross then flicks out a series of jabs.

Silva skips around the ring, but there’s no real output from the Brazilian right now. The crowd boos briefly, before Silva picks things up.

He backs up Paul to the ropes and unloads hooks to the body. Paul tries to come back with right overhands and left hooks, but none get through clean.

An uppercut is on point for Silva!

Paul vs Silva LIVE

Round 5

We’ve reached the midway point of the fight.

Silva backs up Silva and throws a few hooks to the body, which are blocked.

Silva then skips forward and looks to fight behind his jab. The heavier shots that the Brazilian looks to add aren’t quite accurate enough.

In close, he does seem to be holding Paul’s head somewhat before throwing uppercuts. Both men miss with hooks in close. Silva ties up Paul and gets some good hooks off.

Now Silva corners Paul, landing a right uppercut then a hook off each wing!

Paul vs Silva LIVE

Round 4

The referee asks the fighters to keep it clean. Paul tells Silva, “You’re pulling my head down.”

Haven’t seen any of that.

Paul tries a combination to the body as Silva covers up, then the YouTube star adds a right hand to the head.

Silva is pressing forward. He eats a right hook but then lands an uppercut of his own!

Paul misses with a right uppercut and left hook, before trying another, which Silva slips.

A wild one-two effort from Paul now, as he steps in somewhat ungracefully. A series of right hands are on target for Silva just before the bell!

Paul vs Silva LIVE

04:21 , Alex Pattle

Round 3

More feinting and forward pressure from Silva, then a left cross up top and a right hook to the body. Nice stuff.

Silva wasn’t using his jab much before, but he is now. A left hand lands for him.

He’s swarming Paul, whose output under pressure isn’t looking too tidy. But the American lands a right, then a left, then a right hook as he comes forward himself!

A jab is on point for Paul, then Silva unleashes a flurry to the body. Paul covers up then responds with an overhand right that just about lands!

A competitive round.

Paul vs Silva LIVE

04:18 , Alex Pattle

Round 2

Paul tries another overhand left, but he wings this one more and just misses with Paul on the ropes.

Much more activity from Silva already! He’s feinting a lot but also adding punches. A left hook lands for the UFC legend, before Paul fires back.

Silva dances around the ring, light on his feet. He even seems to feint a kick! Paul with a good right overhand, then he misses with a left hook. Good head movement by Silva on the latter, and even more so now as he avoids Paul’s jabs.

A pawing right hand just misses for Silva, but he’s backing up Paul. And he connects with a good shot late in the round!

This is much more promising from the Brazilian.

Paul vs Silva LIVE

04:14 , Alex Pattle

Silva’s overhand left was the best punch of the first round, but it was the only one he threw!

Paul vs Silva LIVE

Round 1

Paul tentatively takes the centre of the ring early on. He flicks out a few jabs and feints a little.

Silva looks relaxed and parries a couple of Paul’s jabs, evading others.

Paul jabs to the body, then adds a cross moments later. Southpaw Silva is yet to throw a punch, while Paul is now targeting his opponent’s head.

Silva blocks a right cross up top. Again he’s jabbed to the body. Finally Silva lets go, and it’s a short overhand left that connects on Paul’s temple. It’s not the hardest shot, but it gets Paul’s attention.

The fighters clinch late in the round, which Paul will take on activity alone.

Want to know more about Silva? Indy Sport ranked him as the greatest middleweight in UFC history, and this is why:

“Reigning 185lbs champion Israel Adesanya, who has a victory over Silva, is staking an increasingly sharp claim to be regarded as the best ever in the division, but his hero’s own argument stands on strong foundations built over a long period of time.

“Silva won the UFC middleweight title with a game-changing performance in 2006, devastating Rich Franklin in the Thai clinch to secure a stoppage within three minutes and begin a seven-year reign, which included 14 successful title defences in a row. Both the length of time and number of successful defences remain UFC records to this day.”

Here’s what boxing promoter Eddie Hearn – who worked with Paul earlier this year – had to say about the American’s bout with Silva, when it was arranged last month:

“I don’t know enough about Anderson Silva... Anderson is [47], but he can box a bit by the sound of things. While boxing is still a very impressive part of his repertoire, he’s still not a boxer, and he’s 47 years of age.

“But he’s a tough guy, he has a huge profile, he can box, and I think he’ll be competitive.

“I don’t think he beats Jake, because I think Jake is young, and I think he can punch a bit – and I’m intrigued to watch, and I like what Jake’s doing.”

Jake Paul has put mixed martial arts fans in an awkward position. Over the last year, the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer has gleefully positioned himself as a kind of saviour in waiting for UFC fighters, openly addressing the pay disparity between MMA’s flagship promotion and the top leagues in other major sports.

It is a matter on which most fans agree with the 25-year-old, despite the obnoxiousness with which the American tackles most endeavours. Well, now he is indeed tackling Endeavor – the UFC’s ownership group – and his commitment to the cause is mirrored in the discipline with which he has approached his pro-boxing venture.

Not only has the former Disney star dedicated himself to proper training with experienced coaches along the way to building a 5-0 record, but he has also tried his hand at promotion and played a key role in ensuring that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano secured the biggest purses in women’s boxing history earlier this year.

Whatever your thoughts on Paul’s personality, he has earned admiration for his application. And many MMA fans have given Paul his plaudits less tentatively than their boxing equivalents, some of whom have accused him of carnivalising their sport.

But even Paul’s defenders in the MMA world will surely be lowering their shields this evening, as their boxing counterparts sharpen their swords. Because tonight, Paul will look to move to 6-0 as he takes on one of MMA’s sparkling icons: Anderson Silva.

Thank you for following our Taylor vs Carabajal coverage!

Next up? Jake Paul faces his toughest boxing test yet as he goes up against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva this evening.

YouTube star Paul has gone unbeaten at 5-0 since beginning his professional boxing venture, knocking out every opponent he has fought. In his most recent bout, the American stopped another former UFC title holder in Tyron Woodley. That result last December saw Paul, 25, go one better than his decision win against his compatriot from last August, while Silva also has boxing experience and has compiled a 3-1 pro record.

At 47, age is against Silva, though he is seen by many as the greatest UFC fighter of all time and holds a boxing win against former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr – driving home the “Spider”’s fighting pedigree. The Brazilian’s seven-year reign as UFC middleweight champion marks a record in the mixed martial arts promotion, while Silva’s corresponding 16-fight win streak is also an unbeaten record in the UFC. He and Paul go head to head in Arizona tonight, as Silva gets his chance to end the former Disney star’s boxing venture.
