Jake Paul has expressed his displeasure with boxing friend Ryan Garcia, related to ongoing allegations of steroid use and subsequent failed drug tests, warning that he'd be "p***ed off" if the accusations are found to be true.

25 year old Garcia previously held the title of interim WBC lightweight champion, and managed to topple fellow American Devin Haney last month. However, his momentous win is now significantly tarnished by a brewing scandal involving performance-enhancing drugs - something he allegedly used.

Garcia's substance test came out positive for Ostarine, a SARM (selective androgen receptor modulator) known for enhancing lean muscle mass. In the face of these findings, the young boxer maintains a strong denial of ever using such substances, despite testing positive. He made his position clear via social media, emphatically stating: "Everybody knows that I don't cheat," and "Never taken a steroid, I don't even know where to get steroids. I barely take supplements. Big lies, I beat him."

The controversy triggered a frank discussion between Paul and Garcia, footage of which was shared on their Instagram accounts. Engaging in a video call, Paul directly addressed Garcia, admonishing him with the words: "If you did do it, then that's really f***** up bro and I'm going to be "p***** off with you as a friend... That's f***** up, reports the Mirror.

Garcia, on his part, clung to his defence, interrupting Paul to assert again: "I didn't do it. If I did it bro, and I know damn well that I didn't, I would've quit boxing. I didn't do it. I don't think you're doubting me, I just think you're trying to ask questions just like everybody else."

Paul remarked on the situation: "Exactly. It's all messy bro. I also pray for Devin's safety. I know him as a person, he's a great guy." Garcia has been allotted a 10-day period to request analysis of his B sample.

Haney, Garcia's opponent, did not hold back in his reaction to the test results, stating: "We learned about this situation not too long ago and it's unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.

"I've always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. "Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living. You don't play boxing.

"This puts the fight in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and got back up! People die in this sport. This is no laughing matter."

The New York State Athletic Commission provided a statement to BBC Sport, confirming: "Safety, fairness, and integrity in professional athletic competition are essential. The Commission is in communication with VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) and is reviewing the matter."
