Jameela Jamil, Kate Beckinsale, Mia Farrow and more celebrities react to Harvey Weinstein's 23-year sentence
Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. The news comes following his conviction of committing a Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree and third-degree rape last month in his New York sexual assault trial.
Weinstein was sentenced by Supreme Court Judge James Burke on Wednesday morning, with the 67-year-old’s prison sentence being determined as a result of the charges based on testimony by former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley and former actress Jessica Mann.
Both women spoke at Wednesday's sentencing, with Haley noting, "If Harvey Weinstein had not been convicted by this jury, it would have happened again and again and again. I'm relieved he will now know he's not above the law. I'm relieved there are women out there who are safer because he's not out there."
As the most publicized case of Hollywood’s #MeToo movement, celebrities were quick to react to the disgraced film producer’s sentencing.
The Good Place actress, Jameela Jamil, who has been vocal about the #MeToo movement, applauded the women who came forward with their stories.
Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 23 years in jail! Congratulations to the incredible women who took this monster on, in spite of how maliciously he retaliated. You have made a huge leap forward for all women with this victory. Also so much love to @RonanFarrow ❤️

Actress and activist Mia Farrow also offered her message of support to the women.

Actress Rosanna Arquette, who was one of Weinstein’s accusers, also took to Twitter. In her message of “gratitude to all the silence breakers,” Arquette also gave a shout out to fellow actress Rose McGowan, who was one of Weinstein’s first accusers, and journalist Ronan Farrow, who was one of the first journalists to report the allegations.
Gratitude to all the silence breakers especially Rose and all survivors of weinstein to the brave women who testified and to the incredible investigative reporting of Ronan farrow who uncovered the sabotage and spying and to david Remnick thank you Rich McKuen and ny times.

Actress Mira Sorvino shared that she “cried tears of amazement” over the news and “that the justice system has worked on behalf of all of his victims today.”
23 years. Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for his crimes of rape and sexual assault. I literally cried tears of amazement, gratitude that the justice system has worked on behalf of all of his victims today.

Several comedians also weighed in, including Janey Godley, Pete Dominick and Tommy Campbell.
Many rapists think the past or their depraved acts will NEVER catch up with them. Took me 30 years to imprison my attacker - but I still get far right men troll me on twitter about it pic.twitter.com/DuJA9y2MXB

Ronan Farrow, who investigated Weinstein, spoke about the bravery of standing up to powerful people.
The Weinstein sentence reminds us of the importance of those sources and of leaders at news organizations who refused to kill the story—including the editors at the New Yorker who published the first allegations of rape and assault about Weinstein.
— Ronan Farrow (@RonanFarrow)
Megyn Kelly thanked women who spoke out but also expressed support for those who could not.
To all the women who had that sickening feeling of having to choose between preserving their careers vs speaking out against their abuser, and who managed to find their voice, thank you. To those who chose otherwise, you’re loved & supported too. #Weinstein

Presenter Padma Lakshmi said she was "thankful for all of the incredible survivors", celebrating the sentencing.
23 YEARS!! Justice has been served today. So thankful for all of the incredible survivors who shared their experiences at the hands of this monster. https://t.co/E6t1A5vc3X

She also named journalists Ronan Farrow, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey whose reporting helped break the Weinstein case wide open.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to @RonanFarrow @jodikantor and @mega2e for their investigative reporting on Weinstein for the @NewYorker and the @nytimes. You're extraordinary journalists and women around the world are better and safer as a result of your work.

John Cleese, who rarely gets political on Twitter, also weighed in on it with a story.
Seeing Weinstein's sentence today reminds me of the story of the judge who sentences an old man to 20 years in jail
The old man says " I shall die before I get out "
The judge says, very kindly, " Well, just do as many as you can "— John Cleese (@JohnCleese)
The Breakfast Club actor John Cusack called the accusers "our sisters - who showed so much courage" in his response.
Wow- I hope our sisters - who showed so much courage feel a bit of justice /vindication - knowing a rich powerful man hasn’t rigged & beaten system @VibeRogerClarke: Court Sentences Harvey Weinstein To 23 Years In Prisonhttps://t.co/NAJfUc6SqJ pic.twitter.com/R1Ox3ZwjQ5”

Kate Beckinsale, who has previously worked with Weinstein on numerous projects, shared a harrowing anecdote about her time with the producer. Recounting how he had "insisted" that the cast of Serendipity go to a premiere in the wake of 9/11, she claimed he later took issue with the all-white tuxedo she wore on the day - bringing her to his home under the guise of a playdate for their daughters before allegedly screaming at her: "stupid f**king c**t...you ruined my premiere" as she hadn't worn a more revealing dress.

She continued, "Hearing that [Weinstein] has gone to prison for 23 years is a huge relief to me on behalf of all the women he sexually assaulted or raped, and I hope will be a deterrent to that sort of behavior in this and any other industry. Having said that, the crimes that are not crimes, the inhumane bullying and sick covert abuse for which there is STILL no recourse no matter who you tell (and I did tell), these too need to go."
