James Corden and Ruth Jones are keeping a lid on the 'Gavin and Stacey' Christmas special script, not even letting key BBC staff sneak a peek at the highly anticipated finale. The duo behind the smash-hit BBC sitcom, who also step into the shoes of Smithy and Nessa, have fans biting their nails in suspense after leaving us hanging with the cliffhanger from the 2019 festive special.

Jon Petrie, the Director of Comedy at the BBC, shared during a comedy showcase that he's still in the dark about the script, as mentioned by the Daily Mail: "I genuinely still haven't seen the script, James and Ruth won't let us look at it yet."

He commended the pair for their stealth, adding, "Which I think is great, they are really keeping it under wraps and don't want people to see it outside of their very, very tight circle until they're 100 per cent certain of it."

Petrie addressed the difficulty of maintaining secrecy around such an eagerly awaited continuation, especially when filming gets underway: "I think it will be hard when they are filming it because it's such a huge show and everyone will want to watch, everyone in all the locations where it's shot, it will be obvious what's being shot."

His comments reflect an understanding of the public's deep interest in 'Gavin and Stacey,' noting, "I suppose you have to take it as a compliment that it means so much to so many people.", reports the Mirror.

The decision to craft a final episode was made after James Corden, 47, relocated back to the UK following his tenure as host of 'The Late, Late Show' on CBS. The show initially aired from 2007 to 2010 and was brought back for a special in 2019.

It's reported that most of the cast have agreed to return, including the lead characters - portrayed by Mathew Horne, 45, and Joanna Page - as well as fan favourites Rob Brydon, 59, Alison Steadman, 77, and Larry Lamb, 76.
