James Forrest reveals Celtic transfer possibility as winger's instincts prove spot on

James Forrest admits he COULD have left Celtic in January.

The long-serving winger found himself on the fringes under Brendan Rodgers and a move away, even on loan, might have been the best option to those looking in from the outside. But as as soon as the wide man knew he'd be remaining with the only club he's ever known until the end of the season, it was full focus on getting himself back into the manager's plans. "In January there was a few things but nothing concrete," he told Sky Sports. "I always knew and felt I could contribute here. Once the window shut and I knew I was here I wanted to keep pushing the team.

"A lot of players don't play here. The dressing room is really good because we have loads of players and no one tosses off training. Everyone works hard and that keeps the boys that are starting and pushes them knowing if they don't have a good game or bad results then there is players to push you to come into the team as well."

He's done that in style. Forrest has enjoyed a spring resurgence at just the right time. His double at Dundee helped keep the Hoops' title tilt on track and they can put one hand on the Premiership trophy with a win over rivals Rangers on Saturday. And Forrest is set to play a bigger role given his recent form.

"I have always had confidence in myself but January and February not being in the squad was tough," he admitted. "But as footballers you go through tough stages and loads of different times throughout your career.

"I am just glad I managed to keep working hard. Since March I have been back involved with the team, getting some minutes and the last few weeks has been even better and started the last few weeks and making an impact which has been good."
