Jamie Carragher has been hailed a "legend" after a "day to remember".

The former Reds defender was one of thousands of people who took part in the Run For The 97 today, Saturday, to commemorate the 97 football fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough on April 15, 1989.

It’s held to also remember the families and survivors, who continue to fight tirelessly for a Hillsborough Law to this day.

Today's run was the tenth anniversary of the event, and has come just weeks after the 35th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster on April 15.

After taking part, Carragher took to Instagram to share some snaps. One photo showed his name sheet, along with a medal for finishing the race, which reads: "Run For The 97. 5K. A day to remember."

Another image showed campaigners holding a banner calling for "Hillsborough Law Now".

Captioning the update, Carragher simply said: "The 10th anniversary of the 5K run for the 97 [red and blue heart emojis] @23.foundation @thelfcfoundation @btrliverpool". Fans have been quick to commend him for his efforts in the post's comments section.

Stephanie said: "Thanks for signing my daughter's t-shirt, she's absolutely chuffed", while @bulusdogara270 said: "Legend". Joanne said: "I always love doing this run and this year seemed better than ever. Great atmosphere and so good to ensure it educates the next generation."
