Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United are one of the worst coached teams in the Premier League, as he slammed Erik ten Hag's management of the side.

Ten Hag is under huge pressure at United right now and his future seems in grave danger after a harrowing 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night. Michael Olise scored twice as United were a distant second best at Selhurst Park, falling to their 13th league defeat of the campaign, which leaves them in eighth place.

The picture doesn't look good for Ten Hag. And Carragher compared United's defending to that of the league's bottom club, already relegated Sheffield United, arguing that the players lack belief under the Dutchman.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said: "This is one of the most poorly coached teams in the Premier League. That is a fact. That is not an opinion, that is a fact.

"The numbers tell you that when they are bottom of the league defensively, lower than Sheffield United. Your performance levels will drop and the results are not as good when you are missing your best players, that is the most obvious thing to say."

With Ten Hag's future under increasing threat, Carragher said that the way United play is more important than results right now, with just three Premier League games of the season remaining, plus the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

He added: "I have said this for a while for Erik ten Hag now, it’s almost the opposite of what you would say with most managers. You say they need a result, but he needs performances. He needs belief.

"They are struggling with [injured] players and it’s not a great time and the structure at the club isn’t right, we get all of that. But you have to make us believe that there is something here and working towards something.

"I struggled to see how Manchester United would win tonight. No Manchester United team should be getting beat 4-0 by Crystal Palace. Manchester United’s U23 team, if they are at Manchester United and they have come through the academy and have been coached and taught to play and played in that game, I would still not expect them to lose 4-0.

"I have never been a coach or a manager, but I have been a player, and I have been coached by some top coaches, and some of the things I see are just wrong."
