Jamie Carragher reacts to 'massive' Liverpool result and title chances

Jamie Carragher has reacted to a 'massive' result for Liverpool after the Reds' 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage this afternoon.

The former Liverpool defender pointed to the Reds' 1-0 win against Atalanta on Thursday as a reset moment for Klopp's side following a disappointing string of results.

The win in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final tie may not have been enough to keep Liverpool in the competition, but Carragher felt it was an important turning point in the Reds' recent fortunes.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "A massive result for Liverpool, not just in terms of the title race and the three points. They needed to get back on track. And actually, midweek, Liverpool won the game, went out the competition but I think Jurgen Klopp used that almost like 'Liverpool are back. We've got a clean sheet, we won the game'.

"This was a step up again in terms of performance. Still they could do better, of course, but it's a massive result now."

He added: "Liverpool right now, five games to go in the Premier League, level on top with Arsenal just [behind] on goal difference... it's a great position to be in."

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota helped to get the Reds' Premier League title challenge back on track at Craven Cottage today.

A Castagne goal put Fulham level going into half time, but the Reds responded in the second half to put Jurgen Klopp's side level with Arsenal at the top.

And with six Premier League games remaining, Liverpool are certainly not out of the championship battle yet. Arsenal's hard-fought 2-0 win at Wolves means they now lead the way. But the Reds are now level with the Gunners at the top following their victory over a mid-table Fulham team.

Mohamed Salah was replaced in the starting forward line by Diogo Jota, who made his first start in more than two months having recently recovered from injury.

It was one of five changes made by the Reds boss. Jarell Quansah also madehis first start since his mistake in the draw at Manchester United earlier this month, replacing Ibrahima Konate as centre-back partner to Virgil van Dijk. Alisson Becker continues in goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Andy Robertson at left-back.
