ITV's The Masked Singer continues apace, but viewers are still none the wiser as to who Tree might be. (Well, they can't all be as obvious as Queen Bee, can they?)

We're now one step closer to the truth, however, as possible contender Jamie Redknapp has officially ruled himself out of the competition. Although we suppose he would do.

Jamie, following in the footsteps of Peter 'I can confirm I am not a singing tree' Crouch, appeared on today's (January 16) Good Morning Britain to address the rumours and to dismiss Susanna Reid's claims that The Masked Singer's Tree looks "remarkably" like him.

Jamie replied, entirely seriously: "I'm a rapper. I'm more of a rapper."

Setting the record straight once and for all, Jamie confirmed that Tree is "not" him, admitting that he didn't even know what the new reality show was until people began ringing him up about it.

"I kept getting messages going, 'Are you a tree?' I'm like, 'Well, yeah, if you want me to say that'," he joked, before clarifying: "No, I'm not a tree."

The reason viewers are suspecting the likes of Jamie Redknapp is because Tree has been dropping football-related hints left, right, and centre (forward) since the show's start.

Not only has Tree apparently "played in front of big crowds before" and has a "goal" to win the competition, they also conceded they weren't "pitch perfect" but would give singing a "shot" anyway.

Crouch, Chris Kamara, Alan Shearer, and even David Beckham have all been floated as the celebrity behind the mask, but we're going to have to wait for that final whistle until the truth is out.

(It's not going to be Beckham though, is it?)

The Masked Singer continues Saturday (January 18) on ITV.
