Jason Bateman eyed this stylish NYC penthouse with an eye-catching staircase
Award-winning actor Jason Bateman was spotted house hunting in downtown Manhattan, and one of the spots he toured was this stylish Tribeca loft.
The star of shows from “Little House on the Prairie,” when he was a child actor, to “Arrested Development” and “Ozark,” Bateman also co-hosts the popular podcast “Smartless” with Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. Guests have ranged from President Biden to Larry David.
Bateman is married to Amanda Anka, a co-producer of Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”
This striking penthouse duplex is at 16 Desbrosses St. It’s on the market for $9.99 million — down from its most recent $11 million ask. It’s in a former six-story textile warehouse, which features just eight units.
“Celebrities love the building because it’s so non-descript,” an insider told Gimme Shelter. “There’s no doorman. You just slip into a nothing building, and then walk into an apartment that has such a ‘wow’ factor.”
Stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts and Jake Gyllenhaal also toured the penthouse the last time it hit the market, we hear.
The 3,324-square-foot loft boasts three bedrooms, 3.5 baths — and two landscaped terraces. The “wow” factor includes a living room with 23-foot ceilings and a wall of windows just as high.
There’s also a dramatic, sculptural spiral staircase made of steel, copper and wood — and classic loft details, including beamed ceilings, wide plank hardwood floors and lots of exposed red brick.
The staircase leads to the main bedroom suite, which includes a walk-in closet-slash-dressing room, a red brick gas fireplace and an ensuite spa-like bath. The lush terraces showcase views of One World Trade Center, the Hudson River and the Frank Gehry-designed 8 Spruce St.
The building has long been a draw for artists, including Lena Dunham’s parents, the painter Carroll Dunham and the photographer Laurie Simmons, who sold their home for $6.25 million in 2014, according to reports. Lena Dunham also shot her debut film “Tiny Furniture” there.
Common charges are a mere $1,995 a month, as there are no amenities, or even a doorman, to pay for.
The listing brokers are Douglas Elliman’s Raymond Dillulio, Lisa Interdonato, Fredrik Eklund and John Gomes.
